Freeland Park sits along KwaZulu-Natal's South Coast, roughly 60 kilometres south of Durban. The area is part of a stretch of coastline that has long been popular with South African families, particularly those from Gauteng and the inland provinces looking for warm-water beach holidays. The Indian Ocean here is generally calmer than the Cape coasts, and the water temperature stays comfortable for swimming through much of the year.

The town of Scottburgh is the closest commercial centre, just a few kilometres away, and provides most of the practical amenities visitors need. Scottburgh has a well-regarded beach, a small shopping area, and several restaurants.
